Calling the Night Gods: LPO Premiere

St John's Smith Square

7:30 PM
£9 (£4 student)

Four world premieres, including Stef's new work 'Calling the Night Gods', alongside music by Purcell and Sir James MacMillan, performed by the London Philharmonic Orchestra in the magnificent surroundings of St John’s Smith Square.

New Musick

These brand new works from the LPO’s Leverhulme Arts Scholars have been informed and inspired by Purcell’s own Come, ye sons of art, which was composed as an ode for the birthday of Queen Mary II of England in 1694.

Stef’s composition draws on an ancient Babylonian incantation and a range of music that was composed to glorify the achievements of history’s rulers to contrast the pomp and splendour of monarch or regime veneration with the dark reality of what happens when too much power is placed in the hands of one individual.
